Growing up in Australia, having an apple crumble for dessert was part of every family gathering, so the memories alone make it one of the best desserts. When you combine the smell of the apples and cinnamon together, you have a heavenly house for hours (true story, the smell helped us sell our house at the first open for inspection!). This apple crumble is also divine with a scoop (or two, or three) of vanilla ice cream. Bliss!
Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Grease a 2-litre casserole dish.
Place apples, sugar, cloves and water in a large saucepan.
Cook on high heat for no more than 9-10 minutes.
Put all the crumble ingredients in a bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until just combined.
Strain the apples, remove the cloves and discard.
Pour crumble mix over the apples and spread evenly across the top with the back of a spoon.
Bake for 30 minutes or until slightly golden on top. Serve while still hot.
